“First things first, recover. We have belief in our group, we are a very good cricket team. Yes, tonight, we had an off night, but I guess there is also a lot of positives, in the fact that in 36 hours we go again, so it is a big game,” Marsh said in the post-match press conference.
“It will be against India obviously, and it’s a must-win game and I think if you look back on it, the sort of history of this team, hopefully well. I know for a fact that it brings out the best in our guys. So the voids will certainly be up and about for it.”
Despite the setback against Afghanistan, Mitchell Marsh remains confident. He emphasizes that Australia is a strong cricket team, and their off night against Afghanistan doesn’t define them. The quick turnaround—just 36 hours until the India match—provides an opportunity to regroup and come back stronger.
“That is really clear for us. We have, you know, it is all about trusting ourselves. Like I said, we had an off night, but we stayed focused on what we were good about as a team. But a good bunch of people, I believe our best is up with the best, so we need to bring that on whatever day it is in a couple of days time and move forward pretty quickly,” Marsh added.
Marsh believes that the pressure of a must-win game against India will galvanize his team. The voids left by the loss to Afghanistan will be filled with determination and focus. Australia’s big-game mentality will come to the fore as they aim for victory and a spot in the semi-finals.
