The inaugural day of the ISSF World Cup in Bhopal saw the Indian contingent bagging two medals- including one gold, in the first ever edition of the tournament taking place in the Madhya Pradesh capital.
On the home turf, the Indian team saw Sarabjot Singh bagging his first-ever senior ISSF gold medal, along with Varun Tomar, clinching a bronze, both in the men’s 10m air pistol event.
Sarabjot dominated in his summit clash against Ruslan Lunev, finishing the match in only eight shots and with a 16-0 scoreline over his Azerbaijani opponent.
“I always had it on my mind that I need to win something for India,” the shooter from Ambala said after his victory. “I just trust my process. When I was on 10-0, I thought I could go for the remaining three shots as well.”
“I am trying to make the upcoming Asian Games and World Championship team. The failure in Cairo motivated me to work on my physical fitness and mental makeup,” added Sarabjot.
