The second day of the ongoing ISSF World Cup in Bhopal ended with two team medals for the Indian contingent, as the pair of Rhythm Sangwan and Varun Tomar bagged the 10m air pistol mixed team silver, while Rudrankksh Balasaheb Patil and R. Narmada Nithin ended with a bronze in the 10m air rifle mixed team event on Thursday.
En route to the country’s first silver at the tournament, the Rhythm-Varun duo settled for second place in the air pistol summit clash against Qian Wei and Liu Jinyao, the Chinese team who won the match 17-11.
“We all try our best to put our best foot forward. Silver is a medal as well but, of course, gold would have been great. There’s always a next time,” said Rhythm after the event.
Coming to the rifle bronze medal clash earlier in the day, Rudrankksh and Narmada went up against another pair from China- Qiongyue Zhang and Haonan Yu, and bagged the third place finish with a 16-8 victory.
“It always feels nice to win a medal. With us, it has often happened that we shoot good scores but often don’t make the podium. But we focus only on the process,” Rudrankksh stated following the win.
At the end of day 2 of the ISSF World Cup, India is placed second in the medal tally with one gold, one silver and two bronze, while China tops the list with three gold and two bronze.
