Veteran Indian shooter and Olympian Mairaj Khan etched his name in the history books after winning India’s first gold medal in men’s shotgun skeet discipline at the ISSF World Cup in Changwon, Korea, on Monday.

A silver medallist from the 2016 shooting world cup in Ro, Khan shot 119 in qualification, tieing with Italy’s Niccolo Sodi, as well as three-time World Champion and Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Abdullah Alrashidi and two others for the last two slots. The 46-year-old topped the second stage and went on to beat Korea’s Kim Minsu 37-36 to clinch the gold.

In the women’s 50m rifle 3-position team, the trio of Anjum Moudgil, Ashi Chouksey and Sift Kaur Samra clinched bronze for the country with a 16-6 win over Austria. Germany and Korea were the gold and silver medallists in the discipline respectively.

Now with five gold, five silver and three bronze, India remains at the top of the medals table, above the hosts Korea (three gold, three silver and two bronze) in second place and Serbia (three gold) in third place.
