The Indian shooting contingent has marked a mediocre start to their campaign at the ongoing ISSF World Cup hosted at the city of Osijek in Croatia. On Friday, both the men’s and women’s 10m teams of the country failed to finish with a medal-clinching performance.

The men’s team, comprising of Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Deepak Kumar and Divyansh Singh Panwar were defeated in the showdown for the bronze medal against to the Serbian team, losing to the trio of Milenko Sebic, Milutin Stefanovic and Lazar Kovacevic 14-16 in the third place match.

On the other hand, the women’s counterpart have also met with the same fate. The triad of Anjum Moudgil, Apurvi Chandela and Elavenil Valarivan finished 11th in the qualification round with a total of 1867.7, failing to make the cut to the next round. Previously, they also failed to reach the women’s 10m air rifle final event on Thursday.

Moudgil, however, breaches final qualification marks at the European Championship last month. Yashaswini Singh Deswal and Manu Bhaker had reached the women’s air pistol final, but suffered early exits.

The 27-year-old, who is a Sub Inspector (SI) with Punjab Police, clocked a score of 1173, a massive improvement compared to her score of 1162 in the World Cup, to breach into the final qualification mark in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions event at the tournament which took place in Osijek before the World Cup.

Saurabh Chaudhary has been the only Indian medal winner at the ISSF World Cup, bagging a bronze in the 10m air pistol event.

The 15-member shooting team from India are coming off of their exposure-cum-competition tour in Zagreb last month. Upon arriving at Osijek, they first took part in the European Championship which took place from 20th May 20 to 6th June.

The ongoing World Cup, which kicked off on 22nd June will be hosted until 3rd July. It is also the final competitive outing for the Indian shooting contingent before they fly to Tokyo for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics last month.
