ISL Match 34 Review: Mumbai City continue to lead the table as they trounce Hyderabad 2-0

The clash between Hyderabad FC and Mumbai City FC ended in a 2-0 scoreline in favour of the latter in the first match of the double header on Sunday in the Indian Super League (ISL) at Tilak Maidan.

The match at Tilak Maidan started off with Hyderabad FC getting a chance to score a goal in the opening five minutes.

Aridane Santana got a chance to give his side a lead from a cross from Halicharan Narzary but Mumbai City goalkeeper, Amrinder Singh was their to intercept.

Mumbai City came very close to register the first goal of the game when Bipin Singh got the ball on the left flank with a superb long pass from Mourtada Fall but his shot was side netted.

Vignesh Dakshinamurthy scores for Mumbai City FC

Vignesh Dakshinamurthy netted the breathrough goal for Mumbai in the 38th minute.

Ahmed Jahouh sent a 40-yard cross-field ball to Bipin Singh, who sent it to Vignesh with a volley. His thunder of strike found the back of the net beating goalkeeper Subrata Paul.

Hyderabad went on the offense following that and almost levelled up the score before half time. Akash Mishra’s cross from the left flank was headed wide by an unmarked Mohammed Yasir from five yards out.

After the restart for the final 45 minutes, both the teams went on the front foot. But, Mumbai City FC capitalised on a defensive mistake by Hyderabad.

Le Fondre seals the game

Rowllin Borges got the possession of the ball after a mistake and squared it to Adam Le Fondre, who took a touch and came up with a  superb finish into the bottom corner to register the insurance goal for his team.

Liston Colaco’s run on the flank proved to be a threat for Mumbai but the defense dealt with it quite well.

Mumbai are atop the table with 16 points in 7 games and will play Kerala Blasters next on January 2.

Hyderabad are in sixth with 9 points in 6 matches. Their next game is against the Blasters as well, on December 27.
