The highly anticipated derby between the heavyweights from Kolkata became a one-sided affair as ATK Mohun Bagan walked all over East Bengal, thrashing them 3-1 at the Fatorda Stadium.
ATK dominate rivals East Bengal to stay at the top of the table
Starting the derby as clear favourites, ATK Mohun Bagan took the lead in the 15th minute with their superstar forward Roy Krishna received a long ball from Tiri, netting it past Subrata Pal to open the scoring.
The first half would have ended with ATK staying in the lead, but unfortunately, a silly mistake from Tiri costed their lead as the confused defender, tapped the ball in ATK’s net, earning East Bengal their equaliser just minutes before half time.
It was until the 72nd minute until Mohun Bagan went back to the scoring board, as a brilliant interception from Roy Krishna on East Bengal skipper Danny Fox’s short pass near the defensive line set up a goal for David Williams.
ATK had their third and final goal of the night in the 89th minute, and again Krishna was the man behind it. Winning possession on the right wing, the forward aimed for Javi Hernandez in the East Bengal box, and the Spaniard made no mistake to head it into the net.
