A six-goal showdown between the heavyweights Mumbai City FC and Bengaluru FC finishes in the latter picking up a thrilling 4-2 win at the GMC Stadium.

Captain’s charisma: Sunil Chhetri secures a brace as Bengaluru trounce Mumbai City

Within a minute of kickoff, Bengaluru took the early pace as Cleiton Silva made proper use of Udanta Singh’s pass, striking it into the back of Mumbai’s net. The Brazilian striker secured his second of the day in the 22nd minute, heading the ball in from Xisco Hernández’s set piece as Bengaluru went into a 2-goal lead all the way into half time.

Five minutes into the second half, Mumbai City found themselves back into the game as Adam Le Fondre netted in his first.

By the 57th minute, Bengaluru FC skipper Sunil Chhetri, marking his 200th appearance for the team, extended his side’s lead with a brilliant score, receiving a brilliant ball from their keeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu.

Fondre reduced the gap once again, heading the ball above Gurpreet and into the net in the 72nd minute. He almost had his hat trick to level the scores in the 84th minute, but the Bengaluru keeper negated the strike with his fingertips.

However, Chhetri’s heroics were not over yet. In the 94th minute, the veteran striker embarked on a brilliant sprint with the ball, slotting it past Amrinder Singh with a left-footed strike.
