Odisha FC’s dismay continues as they were outflanked by an overpowering NorthEast United FC who swept up a 3-1 win at the Tilak Maidan.

Luis Machado strikes twice as NorthEast trounce Odisha

NorthEast had the control of the game in their grip from the start, taking the lead in as early as the 9th minute with Luis Machado netting in his first goal of the match, courtesy of a surgically calculated cross from Ashutosh Mehta.

Within ten minutes of their first strike, Deshorn Brown made brilliant use of Federico Gallego’s through ball, slotting it into the Odisha net in between their opposition keeper Arshdeep Singh’s legs.

Gallego got his second assist of the match, this time landing a remarkable cross right in front of Machado, who thundered in his second goal of the game, increasing NorthEast’s lead to three goals.

Odisha found their consolation just before the half time, as Bradden Inman’s shot deflected into the back of NorthEast’s net to finish the dramatic first half.

However, the second half of the game went goalless, with both teams making multiple attempts to score one more, albeit Odisha going desperate in the last 15 minutes to get back into the game.

NorthEast, however, were down to 10 men in the 85th minute as Gurjinder Kumar was earned his second yellow of the game as the defender marched back to the dressing room. Odisha, unfortunately, weren’t able to capitalize on NE’s three-man defensive line, as the final whistle concluded in a commanding win for Khalid Jamil’s side.
