NorthEast United doubled their lead into the first half already as they contained Kerala Blasters throughout the second half at Tilak Maidan to seal their place in the playoffs.

In just a matter of fifteen minutes, NorthEast took the helm of the match

The match started with NorthEast earning one chance after another, but they found the back of the net until half an hour had passed.

By the 34th minute, Bakary Kone received a forward ball from Khassa Camara, but the Kerala center back did a blatant error, being unable to clear the ball ahead. With VP Suhair gaining possession at the edge of the penalty box, the NorthEast forward left Sandeep Singh behind, followed by a remarkable dribble past opposition keeper Albino Gomes and tapping it home, getting his side into the lead.

Opening up the scoreboard, NorthEast didn’t have to wait so long to double up on their lead, as just minutes before halftime, this time Dylan Fox receiving the ball from Luis Machado. The Aussie defender passed to Lalengmawia in the midfield, who beat his marker to strike one missile that went straight past the near post.

Kerala did find some chances to equalize in the second half, but they failed to clock even one consolation goal.

“I feel extremely happy for my players because they’ve worked extremely hard,” said NorthEast head coach Khalid Jamil following the win, “we need to work harder to make the final. “

“Great feeling. Happy to be in the playoffs,” NorthEast forward Deshorn Brown worded after the game, “I’m becoming more consistent. Once you play more, your sharpness and consistency improves. Would have had more goals.”

“We are just trying to build chemistry. We work on stuff in training. The more we play together, the better we complement each,” the Jamaican striker added.
