Day 12 of the ISL saw Odisha FC post their first win of the season, thrashing Mumbai City FC 4-2 in their own backyard. After successive defeats to both Jamshedpur FC and NorthEast United FC, Odisha simply played flawless football to earn their first ever victory.
The first half saw Odisha dominate the match, scoring a total of three goals and conceding none. The first goal came as early as the 6th minute when Xisco Hernandez took a left footed shot that went past Amrinder Singh into the back of the net.
The home team tried hard to create changes and find the equalizer. However, in the 21st minute, splendid work from both Shubham Sarangi and Jerry Mawhmingthanga opened up a clear chance for Santana, who finished it very beautifully.
In the 40th minute, Nandhakumar Sekar took a shot which was deflected by Amrinder Singh. But the deflection fell right before Jerry Mawhmingthanga, who kept his cool to convert the opportunity and put his side three up before the break.
Mumbai showed signs of fightback in the second half after Mohamed Larbi converted a penalty in the 51st minute. But any indications of a fairy tale finish was put to bed when Santana scored his second of the night with 18 minutes still left to play.
Mumbai however got themselves a consolation goal after Francisco Dorronsoro’s tame effort to save Bipin Singh’s shot ended up in the back of the net.
Odisha’s first win of the season saw them move to 6th place in the table while Mumbai City remained 5th with 4 points.
