India’s wicket-keeper-batsman, Ishan Kishan, set the cricket world abuzz with his scintillating performance in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament. Leading the Jharkhand Cricket Association team, Kishan played a pivotal role in their opening match against Madhya Pradesh.
Ishan Kishan’s blistering Knock
Kishan’s innings was nothing short of fireworks. Walking in at number six with Jharkhand facing a challenging situation, he initially played cautiously. But soon, he shifted gears, racing to his half-century in just 61 balls.
From there, Kishan unleashed a flurry of aggressive strokes, smashing nine towering sixes in a span of 39 balls. His explosive innings reached its pinnacle when he completed his century in only 86 deliveries.
After Madhya Pradesh was bowled out for 225 on the second day of the match, Kishan’s heroics helped Jharkhand surpass their first-innings total. His blistering century put Jharkhand in a commanding position.
Kishan’s return to form is particularly noteworthy. After opting for a break due to travel fatigue in the 2023 season, he fell out of favour with the national selectors. This exclusion led to his absence from the T20 World Cup squad earlier this year. However, his comeback in the IPL 2024 season with the Mumbai Indians showcased his prowess, where he scored 320 runs in 14 games, including one half-century.

Kishan’s decision to skip domestic cricket earlier this year was a personal one. Despite setbacks, he remains a promising talent, having last represented India in the third T20I against Australia in November 2023. His red-ball century in the Buchi Babu Tournament adds to the selectors’ dilemma, hinting at a potential return to the national side.
