Jharkhand State Cricket Association has announced that Ishan Kishan will lead the team in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 season, marking his return to captaincy after a four-year hiatus. The decision comes as the team looks to rebuild following the retirements of key players like Saurabh Tiwary, Shahbaz Nadeem, and Varun Aaron.

Ishan Kishan, the talented wicketkeeper-batsman, last led Jharkhand in the 2018-19 season. His return to captaincy comes after a period of absence from the Ranji Trophy, during which he focused on his international career. Kishan’s recent performances in domestic tournaments, including the Duleep Trophy and the Buchi Babu Tournament, have been impressive, with him scoring a century in both competitions.

Ishan Kishan’s Appointment

The Jharkhand selection committee has shown confidence in Kishan’s leadership abilities, believing he is the right choice to guide the young and relatively inexperienced squad. “We have picked a very young team. Saurabh Tiwary, Shahbaz Nadeem, and Varun Aaron had all retired after last season so we had to rethink our strategy. Ishan is capable of leading this young side and we’re confident of doing well this Ranji season,” said the chairman of Jharkhand’s selection committee.

Immediate Challenges

Kishan’s first assignment as captain will be the opening match against Himachal Pradesh in Dharamsala. The team will be looking to start the season on a positive note and build momentum from there. Kishan’s experience and leadership will be crucial in navigating the challenges of the tournament and inspiring his teammates to perform at their best.
