IPL Media Rights: E-auction officially concludes with record-breaking deals worth of whopping Rs. 48k crore

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have confirmed that the E-auction has witnessed record-breaking deals of media rights for the Indian Premier League(IPL) for the 2023-27 cycle. The deals are worth a whopping amount of Rs. 48,390.52 crore and it saw Star Sports, Viacom 18, and Times Internet have emerging as the big winners. DisneyStar have retained the digital rights for a sum of Rs. 23,575 crores while Viacom 18 have won the digital and non-exclusive rights for Rs. 20,500 and Rs. 3, 258 crores. Times Internet and Viacom have won the overseas rights for Rs. 1,057 crore.

IPL Media Rights officially announced

The Indian Premier League’s official social media handle confirmed new deals and welcomed their new partners with a tweet saying, “Thank you,@StarSportsIndia for renewing the partnership! Welcome on-board @viacom18 and @TimesInternet. This is just the start of a promising 5-year journey. We can’t wait to get going”.

Bundle A: INR 23,575 crores | 57.5 cr per match (Star)
Bundle B: INR 20,500 crores | 50 cr per match (Viacom)
Bundle C: INR 3,258 crores | 33.24 cr per match (Viacom)
Bundle D: INR 1,057 crores | 2.6 cr per match (Viacom & Times Internet)

The e-auction for the IPL media rights for the 2023-27 cycle started on Sunday, June 12 morning with Bundles A and B going under the hammer first. The media rights had been categorized into a total of four bundles by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) this time around.

Bundle A consisted of the TV rights for the Indian subcontinents while Bundle B consisted of the digital rights for the Indian subcontinent. Bundle C was a special bouquet of 18 matches, including some weekend games and playoffs while Bundle D consisted of the TV and digital rights of the rest of the world.

While the IPL media rights auction was not being televised, it has been reported that combined bidding for Bundle A and B crossed approx $5.3 billion mark, and the interested parties were locked in an intense battle to secure the media rights for the next five-year cycle.
