Former India cricketer and head coach Ravi Shastri believes that the Indian Premier League acts as one of the best physiotherapists in the world. There have been several claims over the players’ allegiance towards the cash-rich league instead of their respective national league.

The astronomical sum of money involved in the IPL draws players with over 1000 players putting their names for the 2022 auction. The influence goes so deep that the South African board had to release their players for the tournament despite a crucial Test series against Bangladesh at home coming up.

Speaking of the influence of IPL in world cricket, Ravi Shastri said in a press conference arranged by Star Sports:

“IPL is one of the greatest leagues in the world, and it’s also one of the greatest physios in the world, because, before the IPL auction everyone wants to get fit, because everyone wants to play in the IPL,”

The former all-rounder will make a return to the commentary box after a long gap. Following the end of his coaching duties with Team India, he is no longer under a conflict of interest to lend his voice for the tournament.

Shastri predicts that all three wickets in Mumbai will behave in a similar manner due to the presence of red soil. He added:

“All these three pitches (in Mumbai venues) are red soil pitches so you get to know how they behave very quickly, you will get similar pitches in the three venues of Mumbai,”

The Wankhede Stadium, DY Patil Stadium and the Brabourne Stadium have been assigned to host the majority of the IPL 2022. The MCA Stadium in Pune acts as the fourth venue.

Red soil tends to aid bounce and as a result, will benefit the fast bowlers. The relatively small boundaries at the Wankhede, Brabourne and the MCA will prove to be a haven for the big hitters as well.

The 15th edition of the competition will kick start with a replay of the finals of the previous edition. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is scheduled to take on the Kolkata Knight Riders on March 26.
