A dull, deflated pitch at the Feroz Shah Kotla saw the boundaries take a backseat for once with the bowlers coming into the spotlight to give Sunrisers their third win in a row.

Heading into the fixture, both the sides had contrasting fortunes. Hyderabad won their previous two fixtures with the latter being a ruthless assault on the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Delhi however stunningly threw away their match in fashion against KXIP in Mohali.

Capitals’ skipper Shreyas Iyer’s ploy to introduce changes continued as he named three changes with Harshal Patel, Avesh Khan and Hanuma Vihari benched to make room for Ishant Sharma, Rahul Tewatia, and Axar Patel. The 2016 IPL Champions, on the other hand, named an unchanged XI.

The ever consistent SRH bowling unit lived up to their expectations as they took complete advantage of the pitch’s nature. Barring Shreyas Iyer, no batsman could play 20 balls on the wicket.

The collective effort by the SRH bowlers helped reduce the hosts to a paltry total of 129-8 with the Afghan spin twins leading the way.

The chase began in a bright fashion for the visitors. Jonny Bairstow ensured his purple patch kept going while the other batsmen chipped in with useful contributions to scale down the total with more than an over to spare.

Brief Scorecard:

DC 129-8 (20 overs) (S.Iyer 43; M.Nabi 2-21)

SRH 131-5 (18.3 overs) (J.Bairstow 48; R.Tewatia 1-10)
