IPL: CSK pacer Lungi Ngidi ruled out of IPL

The injury plague to the fast bowlers continues to spread with South African pacer Lungi Ngidi ruled out of the tournament owing to a side strain.

The depleted pace attack of the defending champions suffered an early setback after Ngidi suffered a side strain that will see him miss the twelfth edition of the tournament.

Ngidi felt some discomfort during the fifth and final ODI against Sri Lanka which the team manager of Cricket South Africa confirming it as a Grade II muscle strain.

“Lungi felt discomfort while bowling during the last ODI against Sri Lanka at Newlands and immediately stopped bowling. Further scans revealed a Grade II muscle strain which will need up to four weeks of rest followed by a rehab programme leading up to the World Cup.” Moosajee said

Ngidi was a revelation for the three-time IPL champions, especially during the fag end of the campaign and was expected to spearhead the bowling attack this time around.

CSK are yet to announce the replacement for the 22-year-old speedster. The other pacers that suffered have suffered injuries ahead of the upcoming tournament are Shivam Mavi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Anrich Nortje.

The defending champions kick off the twelfth season of the IPL by hosting Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram stadium.
