Indian Premier League (IPL) has always tried to become the bridge between the domestic and international circuit. While several stars have come from this T20 league over the years, it has given the chance to international players to brush up their skills as well. The West Indies all-rounder duo – Kieron Pollard and Dwayne Bravo are among them who have become familiar with this league throughout the years.
While Bravo is a part of Chennai Super Kings, Pollard plays for the most successful team in the league – Mumbai Indians, who have won the title for the fifth time. However, their friendship and the occasional banter often gets to see off the field.
Recently, when Mumbai beat Delhi Capitals and lifted their fifth IPL title at the Dubai International Stadium on Tuesday, Pollard decided to pull his friend Bravo’s leg on a cheeky note, as Chennai Super Kings failed to make it to the playoffs for the first time this season. With the win, Pollard has won 15 T20 titles in his name, whereas Bravo has 14.
“Dwayne Bravo you are behind me now (about the number of T20 titles), I have to say that on camera (smiles),” Pollard said after the match.
Notably, five titles of those 15 have come while playing for Mumbai, where Pollard joined before the 2010 season and has scored over 3000 runs as well. In 2020 season, he scored 268 runs at an average of 53.60 and a strike rate of 191.42 which was the most by any batsman this year too.
“It’s a great feeling, means a lot. Fifth trophy. Have been here for 11 years. We have a quiet celebration. He is a different West Indian. He goes at 6am to the gym. The amount of trophies, the amount of talent that’s there, you can say MI is the best T20 team going around. The management, the support staff, the effort they put in to make,” Pollard shared after the win.
