Suryakumar Yadav, the world’s No.1 ranked T20 batter, has made a return to the Mumbai Indians (MI) squad after a full recovery from an injury. This news comes as a significant boost for the MI team, which is struggling to get to their first win in the IPL 2024 campaign.
Yadav had been away from the field since the South Africa tour, where he suffered an ankle injury. This unfortunate incident forced him to miss the first part of IPL 2024. He underwent ankle surgery earlier this year, followed by a rigorous recovery process at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
During his recovery, Yadav shared updates on his progress via social media. He posted a video of his recovery journey on Instagram, showing his transition from having difficulty walking post-surgery to running and doing intense training. His dedication and hard work were evident, reflecting his determination to make a comeback just in time for IPL 2024.
Can Suryakumar Yadav turn MI’s fate?
Before his injury, Yadav had been in excellent form. He captained India’s T20I side against Australia in a 5-match series, leading the team to an emphatic series win by 4-1. In Hardik Pandya’s absence, Yadav was named as India’s captain in the 3-match T20I series against South Africa as well. He led the team from the front with a 36 ball-56 in the 2nd T20I, followed by a blazing 100 off 56 balls in the 3rd T20I in Johannesburg. However, he suffered an ankle injury while fielding during that match.
Yadav’s return to the MI squad is a significant development, considering the team’s current standing in IPL 2024. MI has lost all their three matches so far and is at the bottom of the points table. Yadav’s inclusion could potentially turn the tide for MI, given his exceptional batting skills.

However, it is still not confirmed if Yadav is fit for the upcoming Sunday’s match against Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium. Regardless, his return to the squad is a positive sign, and fans are eagerly awaiting his performance on the field.
