Delhi Capitals defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven runs in Match 34 of IPL 2023, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, on Monday.
After DC skipper David Warner opted to bat first, the side put on a score of 144 for 9 in 20 overs. Superb spells from Washington Sundar and Bhuvneshwar Kumar helped SRH restrict Delhi Capitals to a decent score, courtesy of a late fightback from Manish Pandey (34) and Axar Patel (34). Sundar (3 for 28) grabbed three wickets while Bhuvneshwar (2 for 11) came up with a tidy spell as Delhi struggled to get going.
Meanwhile, chasing a target of 145 runs, SRH reached 137/6 in 20 overs, despite a decent knock from Mayank Agarwal (49). Meanwhile, Axar Patel and Anrich Nortje took two wickets each for DC. Anrich Nortje and Axar Patel picked two wickets apiece as DC restricted SRH to 137 for 6 in 20 overs. It was Mukesh Kumar who held his nerve in the final over to defend 13 runs.
“I love it here. It’s an amazing crowd. I haven’t been here for a long time. Thankfully my hair can only go white from here, it can’t go gray. This game throws up some challenges,” David Warner said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
Warner lauded Mukesh Kumar for the way he bowled in the final over to defend 13 runs and stated that the spin duo of Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav have been the rock for Delhi Capitals in the ongoing season.
“Mukesh there under pressure was absolutely amazing and our two spinners were great. You don’t want them to get used to bowlers in back-to-back bowlers so if I can maneuver them around in the middle overs it can work.”
