Suresh Raina was seemingly enthralled by the Mumbai Indians’ pacer Akash Madhwal as he stated that he has not seen any bowler perform so well since the IPL started in 2008.

Furthermore, Raina also noted the fact that Akash Madhwal is an uncapped player who performed in a high-pressure game certainly speaks volumes about the new pace sensation. He also credited the Mumbai Indians franchise for showing faith and backing the youngster.

“What’s best was that he got a chance to bowl with the new ball. They trusted him after he bowled well at the Wankhede. All credit should go to his coaching staff. His run-up is great. I haven’t seen a bowling performance like this since 2008. He’s an uncapped player who hasn’t even played much, but taking five wickets in a Qualifier? Sensational performance,” Raina told Jio Cinema.

Rohit Sharma opted to bat but Mumbai Indians struggled early in the innings. They lost Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan early. However, the pair of Suryakumar Yadav and Cameron Green kept the team on track. The pair added 66 runs for the third wicket before Naveen-ul-Haq crashed Mumbai’s party and removed the duo in the 11th over.

The Afghan pacer scalped four wickets, while Yash Thakur scalped three. Then a blistering batting by Nehal Wadhera, who scored 23 off 12, helped Mumbai Indians pile a challenging 182/8 in 20 overs.

Chasing the target 183, LSG crumbled as MI took wickets in quick succession. It was Akash Madhwal who run riot with the ball. He produced a sensational bowling effort. Madhwal scalped five wickets in 3.3 overs as Lucknow were bundled out for 101 in 16.3 overs in the 183-run chase. Apart from Madhwal’s clinical display, poor running between the wickets also haunted Lucknow during the stiff run chase.

Marcus Stoinis, who scored 40 off 27 balls – the highest from LSG camp, Deepak Hooda and Krishnappa Gowtham lost their wickets in the form of run-out.

Mumbai will now lock horns with defending champions Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2 at their home venue.
