Delhi Capitals defeated Punjab Kings by 15 runs in the IPL 2023 encounter at Dharamsala on Wednesday, May 17.

Rilee Rossouw took charge of the game and Prithvi Shaw played a magnificent knock as Delhi piled a gigantic 213/2 in 20 overs after being asked to bat first. Rossouw returned unbeaten on 82 off 37 balls, which featured six boundaries and the same number of maximums.

Meanwhile, making a return to the XI, Shaw lived upto the expectations and scored 54(38). He provided his side with a strong start with skipper David Warner. Together the pair added 94 runs in 10.2 overs, before Dhawan grabbed a stunning catch to get rid of Warner for 46(31). Phil Salt too chipped in with a 14-ball 26.

Chasing a target of 214, Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed for a first ball duck against Ishant Sharma as Punjab Kings got off to a slow start. Pabhsimran Singh and Atharva Taide then did some rebuilding and drove PBKS to 47/1 in powerplay. However, Axar then removed Prabhsimran for 22(19).

Liam Livingstone’s counter-attacking knock of 94 runs off 48 balls put Punjab Kings in contention but that was not enough. The PBKS team management took the bold decision of asking their batter Atharva Taide to retire out in a move to send in Jitesh Sharma. Atharva was batting on 55* off 42 balls but the management seemed to have a problem with his strike rate as he was unable to clear the ropes with ease. In the end, PBKS fell 15 runs short to endure a defeat.
