IPL 2023: Irfan Pathan Believes Sourav Ganguly “Can Make A Big Difference” If Appointed As Delhi Capitals Head Coach Next Season

Former Indian pacer Irfan Pathan has opined that former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly in the head coach role for Delhi Capitals (DC) would make a massive difference for the team DC has had a miserable campaign so far in IPL 2023 as they are ranked on the last spot on the ten-team points table with just four wins from 12 matches.

The Capitals are being led by David Warner in the absence of Rishabh Pant who is recovering from injuries he sustained during a horrific car crash in December 2022. Under Warner’s leadership, DC started their campaign with five consecutive losses, however, they made a remarkable comeback by winning four of their next five fixtures.

However, the team was eventually got knocked out with back-to-back losses against Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings. Following a lackluster season, there are widespread speculations that DC might sack their head coach Ricky Ponting at the end of the season.

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan feels that Sourav Ganguly can make a big difference in the side as he knows the psychology of Indian players.

“Sourav Ganguly’s presence in the Delhi dugout is a big deal. I think if Dada is given the responsibility of coach as well, he can make a big difference in this team. Dada has knowledge of the psychology of Indian players. He knows how to run the dressing room and Delhi should definitely take advantage of that. At the time of the toss, Warner has said that his team has now started preparing for the next season and in this context, it would not be wrong to see Ganguly in a changed role,” Pathan said on Star Sports.

It is worth noting that Ganguly is the director of cricket at Delhi Capitals for the ongoing season. Ganguly’s words did work wonders for the team as they went on to win four out of their next five fixtures. However, they failed to carry on with their momentum and got knocked out of the tournament.

DC have two games remaining in the competition against Punjab Kings on May 17 and CSK on May 20.
