David Warner’s extraordinary batting performance went in vain as Chennai Super Kings (CSK) picked up a 77-run win against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday, May 20.
After opting to bat Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway added 141 runs in 14.3 overs for the opening wicket before Chetan Sakariya removed Gaikwad for 79(50). Conway then led CSK’s charge along with Shivam Dube, who smashed a 9-ball 22 before getting out to Khaleel Ahmed. The Kiwi batter was dismissed for 87(52) by Anrich Nortje. Ravindra Jadeja then wrapped things up with a 7-ball 20, which featured three boundaries and one six. They finished the innings with 223/5 in 20 overs.
Chasing the target, Delhi Capitals found themselves in a difficult situation. Capitals got off to a slow start and lost Prithvi Shaw for 5(7). Deepak Chahar then packed Phil Salt and Rilee Rossouw cheaply to reduce DC to 26/3 in 4.5 overs. Warner then went to complete his half-century as as Delhi kept losing wickets in regular intervals. He finished the innings with 86 runs off 58 balls.
