Indian batting ace Suryakumar Yadav is likely to miss out on Mumbai Indians’ opening clash against Delhi Capitals(DC) in the Indian Premier League(IPL) on March 27. It is understood that he will not fully recover from a hairline fracture on his thumb which has kept him away from the action for quite some time now. Yadav had sustained the injury during the T20 series against the West Indies and subsequently missed the series against Sri Lanka. Suryakumar Yadav is one of the four players retained by Mumbai Indians and the franchise is concerned ahead of the 15th edition of the cash-rich league.

“Surya is currently at the NCA doing his rehabilitation. He is well on his way to recovery but there is a possibility that his participation in the opening game will be a real touch and go affair,” a senior BCCI source recently told PTI. “So there could be a possibility that he might be advised by the board’s medical team to not risk playing the opener,” he added.

Yadav has been undoubtedly a key player to the franchise alongside the skipper Rohit Sharma and their Rs 15.25 crore ‘buy-back’ Ishan Kishan. It is a major blow for the Mumbai Indians but they will remain hopeful of Yadav getting cleared soon.

MI have a five-day gap after their first game and they next play Rajasthan Royals on April 2. It is believed that Yadav would be fit to play ahead of the second clash. “I think by the second MI game, he would be 100 per cent match fit. It is likely to be more of a precautionary measure if he doesn’t play the first game,” the source added.

Yadav had been in terrific form prior to the injury and the Rohit Sharma-led side would be looking up to the power-hitter.
