Moeen Ali is the latest addition to the list of players injured at the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The all-rounder will miss a handful of matches after reportedly suffering a knee injury.

The England international suffered the injury during a training session and joins the likes of Adam Milne and Deepak Chahar on the injury table. The New Zealand speedster was replaced by young Sri Lankan sensation Matheesa Pathirana.

The Ravindra Jadeja-led side are currently waiting for a full medical report regarding the injury, which will determine a timetable for his eventual return.

Ali was dropped from the side during the four-time champions’ last contest against the Mumbai Indians at the DY Patil Stadium. He was replaced by Mitchell Santner in the playing XI.

Unlike his stellar 2021 campaign which got him retained with the franchise, Ali has been struggling for form this time around. He was a late addition to the team after his arrival in the country was delayed due to travel documents issues.

He has played five matches so far in IPL 2022, which has only yielded 87 runs at an average of 17.40. His only noteworthy innings came during the defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), where he top-scored with 48 runs.

CSK are currently at the penultimate spot in the points table with two wins in the first half of the tournament. They secured two crucial points in a last-ball win over rivals Mumbai Indians and will face the Punjab Kings at the Wankhede Stadium next.

The franchise have an uphill task when it comes to their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs. With only four points in their bag, CSK are desperate for some momentum and will have to battle their injury crisis.
