The ninth match of the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) features Mumbai Indians (MI) against Rajasthan Royals (RR). It is the second doubleheader of the season and it also marks the first day game at the DY Patil Stadium.
Mumbai Indians (MI)
The new-look Mumbai Indians were stunned to defeat by Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Brabourne Stadium in the first match. The five-time champions made yet another losing start to their campaign following Axar Patel’s heroics.
Yet to play a night game, MI are yet to take advantage or suffer from the heavy dew factor. The return of Suryakumar Yadav bolsters MI’s biggest strength even further.
The struggling Anmolpreet Singh is likely the name to be dropped. Young Tilak Verma looked bright in his debut and also gives a left-handed option in the middle order for the five-time champions. Jasprit Bumrah will once again lead a rather inexperienced bowling attack.
Rajasthan Royals
The Sanju Samson-led side made a near-perfect start to the tournament. They are the only team to defend a total at the 2022 IPL so far. The explosive batting unit clicked while the potent bowling attack played their role to perfection.
An injury to Nathan Coulter-Nile might force a change for the Royals. Jimmy Neesham looks the most likely replacement, but that dents the bowling unit a little, in the fifth bowling spot.
R Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal will have a bigger say in the game with the match being played during the day, meaning a drier surface and a better grip of the ball due to lesser or no dew.
WAGING ODDS: RR (2.10) VS MI (1.72)
MI are the favorites and are priced at 1.72, meaning if you bet ₹100 on them and if they win the match, you’ll be making ₹172.
RR are the underdogs and priced at 2.10, meaning if you bet ₹100 on them and if they win the match, you’ll be making ₹210.
Our Predictions
The return of Suryakumar Yadav comes as a huge relief for MI, who now have a formidable top order at par with the Royals. With both teams having a shaky lower-middle order, bowling is what separates the two sides. A far more well-rounded bowling attack, gives Royals the advantage in the contest. RR are expected to secure their second successive win this afternoon.
