Gujarat Titans (GT) have further solidified their position at the top of the table with a 7 wicket win over wooden spoon CSK at the Wankhede stadium in the afternoon game.
GT bowlers restrict CSK to a below-par score
MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to bat first due to the hot weather conditions at the Wankhede stadium. CSK stepped onto the field with plenty of changes keeping an eye on the future. They brought in Mitch Santner, N Jagadeeshan, Prashant Solanki, and Sri Lankan Matheesha Pathirana into the side. On the other hand, Gujarat named an unchanged XI.
Gujarat landed an early blow as Shami removed in form Devon Conway cheaply. From there on, CSK batters could not up the ante. Ruturaj Gaikwad scored a half-century but took almost 50 balls for it.
N Jagadeeshan scored an impressive 38 in his first game but could not score these runs at a great strike rate. Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers as he took 2 wickets for only 19 runs. CSK was able to post only 133 runs on the scoreboard.
GT openers Gill and Saha started the chase well by scoring 50 runs in the first 6 overs setting a great platform. However, debutant Pathirana, whose action resembles Malinga’s bowling action, got the wicket of Gill in his first ball in IPL. He then went on to pick the wicket of skipper Hardik Pandya as he made his debut a memorable one.
However, the target set up by CSK was not competitive enough. Keeper Saha notched up another fifty of the season and guided GT to the total with his unbeaten 67. Gujarat recorded a comfortable win by 7 wickets and are well on their way to playing Qualifier 1.
