MI end their winless drought with a victory over RR

Birthday boy Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to field first on a slow and turning pitch at DY Patil. MI made two changes as they handed a debut to left-arm legspinner Kumar Kartikeya and brought back finisher Tim David. Rajasthan on the other hand named an unchanged XI.

Rajasthan was off to a conservative start as they lost Padikkal early. Buttler played an innings which came at a slower rate than his other knocks. Other RR batters struggled on the sluggish pitch as MI’s debutant Kartikeya bowled a tight spell.

RR finished at 158 thanks to a fiery 21 from R Ashwin at the end. Meridith bowled an exceptional last over as he finished with figures of 2 for 24 in 4 overs.

Mumbai lost their captain Rohit and Ishan Kishan in the powerplay as the duo’s poor form continues. However, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma came to the side’s rescue. The two stitched an 81-run stand as they brought their side closer to win. Surya brought up another half-century in the tournament.

But MI lost both the players in quick succession and they found themselves in a spot of bother. Pollard and David brought their side closer as MI needed 4 off the last over. MI lost Pollard on the first ball but Daniel Sams’s first ball six registered the first win for Mumbai Indians in this year’s IPL.
