IPL 2022 Match 32 Review: DC put up an all-round display to oust PBKS

12

Delhi Capitals (DC) faced Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Brabourne Stadium in a re-arranged fixture. A splendid all-round performance by the Rishabh Pant-led side helped them return back to winning ways with a 9-wicket win.

COVID-ridden Delhi Capitals won the toss and elected to bowl first. They had to make a forced change with Mitchell Marsh being ruled out. He was replaced by Sarfaraz Khan in the playing XI.

Mayank Agarwal brought himself back into the team after missing out on the previous match against SRH. He came in the place of Prabhsimran Singh.

The PBKS skipper led his side to a brisk start. Shikhar Dhawan perished midway through the powerplay after edging a wayward delivery by Lalit Yadav.

Agarwal departed after a bright 15-ball 24-run knock at the top. An inside edge back onto the stumps ended his stay at the crease.

The in-form Liam Livingstone’s dismissal was PBKS’ third one to fall in the powerplay. The explosive batter was deceived by Axar Patel, resulting in an easy stumping for Rishabh Pant.

Wickets continued to tumble for PBKS. Barring Jitesh Sharma, who was the top scorer of the innings with 32, no batter stayed for too long. The spinners were on point with their bowling. Bowling 10 overs, they only conceded 45 runs and claimed 6 wickets in the process.

Brief cameos by Arshdeep Singh and Rahul Chahar pushed PBKS’ total to the three-figure mark.

Chasing a paltry 116 for the win, Prithvi Shaw and David Warner raced off to an explosive start, keeping in mind the chance to improve their net run-rate.

The duo put on the highest powerplay score of the season. Shaw was the first wicket to fall after scoring 41 off 20 deliveries. Nathan Ellis took a composed catch right at the edge of the boundary rope.

David Warner went on to register his fifty, the third of IPL as DC won by nine wickets.
