The 25th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 will be contested between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). The fixture is scheduled to be hosted by the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)
The Sunrisers Hyderabad have settled into the tournament with back-to-back wins over CSK and GT. Disciplined bowling performances and the emergence of Abhishek Sharma in the opening role have proven to be the catalysts behind their recent success.
Ahead of their crucial clash against KKR, the side have been dealt with a huge blow. All-rounder Washington Sundar is expected to miss a handful of games due to injury.
Direct replacement options include left-arm all-rounder Suchith and leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal. However, if the team doles out the spin bowling responsibilities over to the duo of Abhishek Sharma and Aiden Markram, then the batting could be strengthened by playing an extra batter.
The prospect of Abdul Samad arises as well. The retained all-rounder was dropped from the team after the first two matches. The in-form pace attack, bolstered by the inclusion of Marco Jansen, will be put to test at the Brabourne under the lights.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)
The two-time champions have looked formidable at their best, but equally unconvincing at their worst. Their latest outing was a forgettable one and they reach a crucial juncture with regards to their team combination and personnel at the moment.
The poor form of Ajinkya Rahane and Nitish Rana continues to be a concern after five matches. With Rasikh Salam being ruled out of the tournament due to a lower back injury, it could pave the return of Shivam Mavi into the playing XI.
With Pat Cummins and Varun Chakravarthy yet to find their groove with the ball, a lot of responsibility goes on the experienced duo of Umesh Yadav and Sunil Narine. To their credit, the pair have responded well and kept things afloat.
Waging Odds: KKR (1.61) vs SRH (2.30)
KKR are the favorites and are priced at 1.61, meaning if you bet ₹100 on them and if they win the match, you’ll be making ₹161.
SRH are the underdogs as they are priced at 2.30, meaning if you bet ₹100 on them and if they win the match, you’ll be making ₹230.
Our Prediction
With both teams playing their first evening contest at the Brabourne, it could prove to be an interesting proposition. Caribbean power hitters like Andre Russell and Nicholas Pooran will have a huge say in the counter. Washington Sundar’s service in the powerplay against the out-of-sorts KKR opening pair will be missed. KKR are expected to win the encounter.
