Two favorites of the IPL 2022 RR and LSG faced off in a closely contested game at Wankhede where RR got the upper hand over LSG in a last-over thriller.
RR edged past LSG by 3 runs in an epic comeback
KL Rahul won the toss and went with the popular decision to bowl first. Marcus Stoinis made his debut for Lucknow and Rajasthan Royals introduced Kuldeep Sen and Rassie Van der Dussan in place of Jaiswal and Saini.
RR had a shaky start in the first 10 overs as LSG bowlers knocked over the top order of the pink army. However, West Indian Shimron Hetmyer came to his side’s rescue. He along with R Ashwin stitched a 68 run stand as Hetmyer provided a strong finish. RR posted a respectable total of 162 on the board.
Trent Boult gave RR a dream start as the left-arm seamer dismissed Rahul on the very first ball. Lucknow was reeling in the powerplay as they lost three wickets in the first four overs. However, De Kock, Hooda, and Pandya chipped in with crucial runs to get LSG close to the target.
But Chahal’s four-wicket spell gave RR the upper hand. Stoinis’s quickfire 38 off just 17 balls gave LSG a chance to win. However, young Kuldeep Sen’s exceptional last over where he defended 15 runs against an in-form Marcus Stoinis, scripted an amazing comeback win for the Royals.
