There are a lot of proceedings before the tournament commences with the primary one being the mega auctions. Franchises will decide their player retentions by late December, following which the new teams will avail the chance to make three early picks before the auction is conducted.

India has only seen one and a half-season of the IPL being conducted across the last 3 editions. The UAE played host to the tournament for the entirety of the 2020 edition and the second leg of the recently culminated edition due to COVID-19 playing constant spoilsport.

“I know you all are waiting to see the CSK play at Chepauk. Well, the moment is not very far. The 15th season of the IPL will take place in India and it will be more exciting than ever with two new teams joining. We have a mega auction coming up, so it will be interesting to see what the new combinations look like,” a BCCI official said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

MS Dhoni assured CSK fans that his final IPL game would be at Chennai

CSK skipper MS Dhoni, whose future lies uncertain after he led the franchise to their fourth IPL title, assured the ardent fans that he will play his final game in front of the home fans at the Chepauk. Being the defending champions, CSK will kickstart the 15th edition of the IPL. Speaking during an event MS Dhoni said:

“I have always planned my cricket. My last ODI that I played in India was in Ranchi. Hopefully my last T20 will be in Chennai. Whether it’s next year or in five years’ time, I don’t know,”

It is yet to be seen who the franchise ends up retaining following the announcement of the new rules. Teams will be allowed to make a maximum of 4 retentions and the right to match card provision won’t be making a presence in the auctions.
