IPL 2021: Virat Kohli reprimanded for breaching IPL’s Code Of Conduct against SRH

The captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore, Virat Kohli has been reprimanded for breaching the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) Code of Conduct during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Wednesday, shared a BCCI release.

“Mr Kohli admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.” stated the release.

However, offence 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct is associated with the abuse of cricket equipment. And, Virat Kohli was seen on camera when he was hitting the boundary rope and chair near the dugout. It happened when he walked back after getting out for 33 off 29 off Jason Holder and caught in the deep by Vijay Shankar as well.

However, Royal Challengers Bangalore successfully defended 149 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad and won their second game by six runs. Hyderabad was near to victory at one point when they were at 96-1 in the 14th over, but the dismissal of captain David Warner saw a collapse in their batting order and they ended up needing 16 off the last over and eventually finished on 143-9 as well.

For Bangalore, apart from 33 off 29 balls by Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell did well with 59 off 41. On the other hand, legspinner Rashid Khan picked up 2-18 including AB de Villiers for 1 whereas pacer Jason Holder claimed 3-30, including Virat Kohli and Maxwell, who was out off the last ball after smashing three sixes and five boundaries as well.

After the convincing win, Kohli said: “Not as exhausted as I am proud (of the team). It was a top game for us, the wicket is going to get challenging, we saw that yesterday. You are never really out of the game in these conditions. We have more bowling options and those extra bowling options made those impact performances in the middle overs. I told the guys don’t think that we struggled to get to 149. I believed we could win with 150. If it was tough for us, it will be tough for them as well. Chasing under pressure and you lose wickets, the game can swing anywhere.”
