Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult and Rahul Chahar were once again the pick of the bowlers on the sluggish Chepauk track that has grabbed all the headlines. The pitch has shown that batting gets immensely difficult as the innings progresses and the MI bowling attack took full advantage of that.

Despite conceding 57 runs in the powerplay phase without the loss of a wicket, MI managed to claw their way back into the contest courtesy of good bowling.

Following the win, which takes them to the top of the table with one extra match played, Rohit Sharma credited the bowlers for the win, and claimed that it makes his job easy if the bowlers are executing the plans with perfection.

“It was a great effort from the bowling unit. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy, and when you have a pitch like that and the bowlers are executing their plans, it makes it easy for the captain to manoeuvre the field and keep having those options of your bowling changes,” Rohit said

The Hitman opined that 150 was a good score on the track, but sought improvement in batting during the middle overs.

“I thought it was a good score on that pitch. You saw from both the teams, trying to capitalise on the powerplay. Having said that, I think we can bat better in the middle overs,”

“All these guys have played a lot of cricket on pitches like these. So, there are areas to work on. At the same time, don’t want to be too harsh on the guys. I think the pitch gets slower and slower,”

Lastly, the skipper credited the fielding unit that were perfect in terms of taking catches and hitting the stumps. Pandya hit the bulls-eye twice to effect the run-outs of David Warner and Abdul Samad.

Mumbai Indians have to play two more fixtures at this venue against Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings before they shift to Delhi.

The defending champions will next take on the Delhi Capitals on Tuesday.
