IPL 2021 Match 18 Review:

Toss And Team News

Sanju Samson won the toss for RR and elected to bowl first. Under-fire Manan Vohra was replaced by youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal for the solitary change.

KKR brought in Shivam Mavi in place of Kamlesh Nagarkotii for this fixture.

KKR only manage to post a below-par total

Following an imploding powerplay against CSK at this very venue where they lost 5 wickets in the powerplay, KKR played a cautious approach.

The team perhaps played it too safe as they only registered 25 runs in the powerplay with the loss of Shubman Gill (11) courtesy of a stunning direct hit by Jos Buttler.

Wickets kept on tumbling and KKR struggled to forge partnerships and gain momentum. Nitish Rana (22) and Sunil Narine (6) fell to rash shots to Chetan Sakariya (1-31) and Jaydev Unadkat (1-25) respectively.

Eoin Morgan (0) was a victim of an unfortunate run-out and had to depart without even facing a ball.

Top scorer Rahul Tripathi (36) also met his end as the innings approached the death overs. The final phase of the innings was not eventful for KKR as they had hoped. Andre Russell (10) and Dinesh Karthik (25) could only contribute little as Chris Morris (4-23) shone with the ball.

RR cruise to the total

KKR were able to send both the openers back into the pavilion in the powerplay. Varun Chakravarthy (2-32) trapped Jos Buttler (5) in front while Shivam Mavi (1-19) scalped the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal (22).

After his promising display against RCB, Shivam Dube (22) reclaimed his No.4 spot back. The all-rounder and skipper Sanju Samson () forged a tidy 45-run stand.

While KKR were able to peg back into the contest with wickets and holding the run flow, Samson stayed till the end with David Miller () to finish their Wankhede leg with a win.

Brief Scorecard

KKR 133-9 (20 overs) (R.Tripathi 36; C.Morris 4-23)

RR 135-4 (18.5 overs) (S.Samson 41; V.Chakravarthy 2-32)
