The IPL 2021 season, the 14th edition of the cash-rich cricket league has its 15th matchday on 21st April when Kolkata Knight Riders will lock horns against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Kolkata Knight Riders

After a win in their season opener against SRH, KKR has suffered back-to-back defeats, first against MI and then against RCB last Sunday. Lacklustre and costly bowling from the Kolkata bowlers in the first innings saw Bangalore putting up a score of 204 runs. Varun Chakravarthy, however, left his mark with the wickets of Kohli and Patidar.

Having failed to chase down a target of 153 against Mumbai, the entirety of the KKR batting line-up was unable to cross 30 runs each except for Andre Russell (31), remaining 38 runs away from reaching their target.

Full Squad: Shubman Gill, Rahul Tripathi, Karun Nair, Eoin Morgan (c), Nitish Rana, Gurkeerat Mann Singh, Tim Seifert, Dinesh Karthik, Sheldon Jackson, Andre Russell, Shakib Al Hasan, Ben Cutting, Venkatesh Iyer, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, Sunil Narine, Harbhajan Singh, Pawan Negi, Vaibhav Arora, Pat Cummins, Lockie Ferguson, Prasidh Krishna, Sandeep Warrier, Shivam Mavi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti

Chennai Super Kings

After a loss against DC in their first game, CSK has turned things around with consecutive wins, first against PBKS with sheer bowling brilliance and then a combined effort in the batting performance against RR on Monday saw them defending a total of 188 with ease.

Moeen Ali, who has been impressive with the bat as well, picked three Rajasthan scalps with a staggering 2.33 economy rate. Added with double strikes from Jadeja and Curran, CSK were able to hold off RR at 143, winning the game by a whopping 45 runs.

Full Squad: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ambati Rayudu, Faf du Plessis, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni (c/wk), Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran, Dwayne Bravo, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Robin Uthappa, Imran Tahir, Cheteshwar Pujara, Karn Sharma, Jason Behrendorff, Krishnappa Gowtham, Bhagath Varma, Harishankar Reddy, KM Asif, N Jagadeesan, Hari Nishanth, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, Mitchell Santner, Lungi Ngidi.

Waging Odds: Kolkata Knight Riders (2.05) vs Chennai Super Kings (1.86)

Kolkata Knight Riders are priced at 2.05 and are the underdogs. Betting ₹100 on them will earn you ₹205 if they come out as winners.

Chennai Super Kings are priced at 1.86 and are the favourites. Betting ₹100 on them will earn you ₹186 if they come out as winners.

Our prediction:

KKR is showing its weakness when it comes to chasing, as in both of their losses so far they were the ones to bat second. The batting order will be expected to bounce back strong this time to withstand the Chennai bowling lineup.

This will be CSK’s first game in Chepauk this season. MS Dhoni and co have been impressive in both departments so far, and even if KKR gets to bat first and put up big scores, their batting cavalry, will not have much difficulty chasing down even near-200 targets.

It will be a victory for Chennai Super Kings.
