The Dream11 IPL 2020 season recently reached its conclusion in UAE with Mumbai Indians successfully defending their title, making it their fifth IPL trophy. The 13th edition of the cash-rich cricket tournament, which was postponed from its original March-May schedule due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, also marked the return of cricket across the globe.
IPL 2020 gains massive following with the presence of fantasy sports platforms
Interestingly, the resumption of the ‘Gentleman’s Game’ has not been the only remarkable feat of IPL 2020. The tournament, which was hosted entirely behind closed doors with the fans having resorted to broadcasts, has broken its viewership record with a stellar 28% increment in comparison to the viewership of IPL 2019.
Moreover, the title sponsor Dream11, which replaced former sponsors Vivo for this year’s IPL, clocked surge of 44.4% traffic volume as against the final match of IPL 2019 and achieved whopping 5.3 million+ user concurrency.
According to a recent assessment made by FIFS and Kantar, fantasy sports platforms have increased by around 60% more followers in sports in general.
Additionally, Dream11 themselves conducted a user-based survey on 21st October and discovered that 79% of the users who create their teams on Dream11 watch every match of IPL as they like to closely follow the performance of the players they have chosen in their team.

“IPL is the biggest sports event in India that witnesses extremely high fan fervour, and we are happy to see similar engagement on Dream11,” said Vikrant Mudaliar, Chief Marketing Officer of Dream11 in a recent press release.
“Fantasy sports has increasingly become integral to fan engagement with every IPL. Sports fans are at the centre of everything we do, and we have integrated our users in all Dream11 IPL match activations,” Mudaliar added.
“IPL has always endeavoured to provide a world-class sports event for its fans. With Dream11 coming on board as the Title Sponsor for IPL 2020, we are happy to see a digital sports brand like Dream11 increasing fan engagement through fantasy sport,” Brijesh Patel, the Chairman of IPL elaborated on the Dream11 title sponsorship.
“It’s equally heartening to see how Dream11 has integrated its users in all Dream11 IPL match activations. The match countdown, Dream11 Champion Fans wall and the Virtual guest box have all been brought about to bring the fans to the forefront,” the chairman further asserted.
