In a do or die encounter against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad stepped up with their A-game to make a late bid into the tight playoff race involving 6 teams. An all-round clinical performance by the 2016 winners gave them a vital net run rate boost as well with Royal Challengers Bangalore stranded with three successive defeats ahead of their final fixture.

David Warner included Shahbaz Nadeem in the playing eleven in place of Vijay Shankar, who was ruled out due to a hamstring injury. The Sunrisers Hyderabad captain asked the Virat Kohli led Royal Challengers Bangalore to bat first in Sharjah. Isuru Udana was named in the lineup in place of Dale Steyn while Navdeep Saini returned as well.

Sandeep Sharma had a fruitful spell in the powerplay and had two wickets to his name while keeping things tight as well. Josh Phillipe and AB de Villiers struggled to bring in the runs and eventually perished after making a brief presence.

A spectacular effort by the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowling unit helped restrict the opposition to just 120 after a tame effort by the Royal Challengers Bangalore middle order.

Despite the early departure of skipper David Warner, wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha and Manish Pandey enjoyed a fruitful powerplay with 58 runs coming off it.

Yuzvendra Chahal took his wickets tally to 20 with the twin dismissals of the set batsmen. The Royal Challengers had a sliver of hope after scalping the wicket of Kane Williamson at a crucial juncture.

Spinners controlled the run chase during their spell but failed to receive any assistance from the pacers as the match kept going in favour of the chasing side owing to the meagre target set for them.

Jason Holder stepped up with an entertaining cameo of 26 off just 10 deliveries to hand Sunrisers Hyderabad a huge win, with 6 overs to spare.
