The KXIP skipper KL Rahul had elected to bat first after winning the toss and started off the 1st innings with a superb 63 runs from 52 balls, including seven fours and one six.

There were some quick hits from Rahul’s opening partner Mayank Agarwal (26), followed by Mandeep Singh (27). A blistering 33-off-17 was seen from Nicholas Pooran, who smashed three over boundaries and a four. Their final score was 178 for 4 wickets.

Shardul Thakur shined in the CSK bowling dept, who picked the wickets of the KXIP captain as well as Pooran, however, was a bit costly with a 9.75 economy rate. Deepak Chahar only gave away 17 runs in 3 overs he bowled, while Jadeja and Chawla both picked one scalp each.

A triumphant performance from the CSK opening duo takes the victory

With a target of 179 to chase down, CSK were desperate to secure a victory to be back in the league table battle and the effort from their opening duo became fruitful, as the Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson partnership saw the three-time champions comfortably reaching the target by the 18th over, without losing a single wicket.

Du Plessis, who has been in stellar form this season, powered to a mountainous 87 runs from 53 balls, which includes 11 fours and one six. His partner Watson, the player of the match, went shoulder to shoulder with a 53-ball-83 and also rained 11 boundaries and three sixes, as CSK reached a score of 181 with 14 balls left.

Except for Ravi Bishnoi and Mohammed Shami, all of the KXIP bowlers failed to maintain a below-10 economy rate.

While KXIP drops down to the bottom of the table, CSK have moved up to the 6th place with 4 points. They will take on Kolkata Knight Riders next on 7th October at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Brief Scorecard:

KXIP 178-4 (20 overs) (KL Rahul 63; Shardul Thakur 2-39)

CSK 181-0 (20 overs) (Faf du Plessis 87; Sheldon Cottrell 0-30)
