137

SRH registered their first win of the 2020 edition while inflicting DC to their first loss after two straight wins. A formidable top-order performance was capped off with Rashid Khan’s potent spell of bowling which left DC short of their target.

Electing to bowl first after winning the toss, Shreyas Iyer named one change to the side that defeated CSK. Veteran pacer Ishant Sharma was called in for Avesh Khan.

On the other hand, SRH welcomed back Kane Williamson into the playing side at the expense of Mohammad Nabi. Youngster Abdul Samad was handed a debut with Wriddhiman Saha missing out.

The DC pacers kept the explosive opening pair of David Warner and Jonny Bairstow under check early on. With only 24 runs coming off the first 5 overs, SRH cranked things up a notch to set a good platform.

David Warner was the first wicket to fall after a successful review initiated by Risabh Pant. Manish Pandey only departed for 3 while attempting a slog sweep, the effort failed to clear the distance and resulted in a comfortable catch for Kagiso Rabada.

Kane Williamson’s unbeaten 41 off 26 and a couple of fiery blows by Samad helped SRH to 162-4 at the end of 20 overs. DC did well in the death overs by only conceding 22 off the last 3 overs.

SRH bowlers were at their best to defend the target

Bhuvneshwar Kumar handed SRH the perfect start following the wicket of Prithvi Shaw in the very first over. The youngster edged one straight behind the wicket to depart for just 2.

Skipper Shreyas Iyer struggled to get going after initially being stuck at 1 off 8 deliveries. Rashid Khan struck with his second delivery of the spell to remove Shreyas Iyer from the equation. The captain’s mistimed sweep was comfortably caught in the deep by Samad.

Rashid Khan snapped up the wickets of the well-settled Shikhar Dhawan and Rishabh Pant to tilt the tie in favour of SRH. The leg-spinner ended up with brilliant figures of 3-14.

Rishabh Pant could only muster an almost run a ball knock of 28 to cement a disastrous outing for the DC top order. None of the top four batsmen were able to register a strike rate above 110.
