The IPL has always been a crown jewel for the BCCI and the cricket board definitely milks to make the most out of cricket. The errors in umpiring are becoming a serious issue and keeping that in mind, the BCCI are planning to bring in a ‘specialist’ umpire only to monitor no balls. The IPL Governing Council, in their meeting, discussed the scenario, but are keen to try out at domestic tournaments first.

A member of the Governing Council, confirmed this development and stated the decision on extra umpires are being taken to reduce the errors.

“There will be a specialised umpire for this, who will work in co-ordination with the on-field umpires and the third umpire. This is an effort to reduce errors,” he said.

However, before introducing in the biggest stage of T20 they are looking to imply in Ranji Trophy first.

“It can be tried out in any tournament, even in Ranji Trophy. We will discuss it further and see how it goes.”

Yesterday, The Council members discussed the new ‘Power Player’ concept in which the teams will be allowed to substitute a player at the fall of a wicket or at the end of an over at any point in the game.

But that new rule won’t come soon as a top Board official confirmed that it won’t be implemented in next year’s IPL 2020, due to ‘shortage of time’.

“We are exploring all the options and a decision will be taken over the course of time. The idea is to make the tournament fan-friendly, and we will take every suggestion into consideration. But Power Player may not be used in the next edition of the IPL due to lack of time,” the official said.
