Sunrisers Hyderabad got back to winning ways by handing KKR their fifth defeat in a row. Royal Challengers Bangalore, on the other hand, got the better of CSK in a thriller at the Chinnaswamy stadium.

Match 1: SRH vs KKR

Kolkata Knight Riders’ losing slump continued after a heavy defeat against the Orange Army at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Dinesh Karthik made a few brave calls in the line up by replacing Kuldeep Yadav with KC Cariappa.

The visitors had an ordinary start which proceeded with wickets falling at regular intervals. Andre Russell failed to propel the team in the death overs which resulted in the Knight Riders posting a par score of 159.

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s openers David Warner and Jonny Bairstow continued their fine run by scoring half centuries. Warner crossed the 500 run mark to cement his spot as the orange cap holder.

Jonny Bairstow went on despite the dismissal of the former captain to notch up the victory with 5 overs to spare.

Brief Scorecard:

KKR 159-8 (20 overs) (C. Lynn 51; K.Ahmad 3-33)

SRH 161-1 (15 overs) (J..Bairstow 80*; Y.Prithviraj 1-29)

Match 2: RCB vs CSK

The Royal Challengers Bangalore finally ended their run of seven successive defeats against the three-time IPL winners with a narrow victory. The hosts managed defended a target successfully for the second time in a row.

After opting to bowl first, CSK bowlers gave the team a great start with the early dismissal of Virat Kohli.

The pitch played on the slower side, enabling slower balls to come into the picture. This rendered Dwayne Bravo effective as he picked up the crucial wickets of the set batsmen Parthiv Patel and Moeen Ali who scored 53 and 27 respectively.

The late blitz by Ali propelled RCB to a score of 161. In reply, the CSk top order fell flat once again. The middle order too had little to contribute barring MS Dhoni, who almost sealed the game for the visitors after being down and out at one stage.

With 26 required off the last over, MS Dhoni took Umesh Yadav to the cleaners to bring down the deficit to 2 runs with one ball remaining. The skipper, however, failed to connect the last ball which saw Shardul Thakur being run out and bring RCB their third victory of the season.

Brief Scorecard:

RCB 161-7 (20 overs) (P.Patel 53; D.Chahar 2-25)

CSK 160-8 (20 overs) (M.S Dhoni 84*; D.Steyn 2-29)
