Coming off a tame defeat against the top-placed Mumbai Indians side, CSK named a single change which saw Murali Vijay pave way for Shardul Thakur. Opting to bowl first, CSK managed to execute their bowling plans on point.

The Capitals, who are heavily reliant on their top four batsmen, struggled to cope up with the spin attack of the defending champions. Rishabh Pant was the sole batsman who crossed 30. This meant that DC could only post a below-par total of 147-8.

Chennai Super Kings were able to overcome their opening woes with a solid powerplay. The opening pair of Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis stitched an opening stand of 82. The openers also reached their 50-run mark before being dismissed.

The Delhi Capitals’ bowling attack lacked sting due to the absence of Kagiso Rabada and despite picking up some quick wickets, it came late and CSK went on chase the score with an over to spare.

CSK and MI will square off in their fourth IPL final with MI having won twice out of them.

Brief Scorecard:

DC 147-9 (20 overs) (R.Pant 38; D.Bravo 2-19)

CSK 151-4 (19 overs) (S.Watson 50; A.Mishra 1-21)
