IPL 2019 Day 40: CSK vs DC Preview

50

Today’s clash sees the top two face off against each other in order to strengthen their possibilities of finishing top 2.

When compared at the same stage last season, CSK have similar points, winning the same number of games. But their on-field performance makes for a completely different reading.

Last year saw CSK bowlers pose threat to the opposition batting with their pace attack. This time around the their pace attack has been very worrying but spin has made up for it.

Batting wise the side have clearly failed to cope up in the games that MS Dhoni hasn’t featured. Even while he has featured the top order so far has only fired once which concerns the team.

Meanwhile their opponents for tonight are the DC who have improved the most when compared to last season. In terms of balance between both the bat and all, the side seem to be very much balanced.

Their only concern for today will be the pitch at Chepauk. They really haven’t enjoyed playing in slow pitches and the MA Chidambaram stadium will be no different.

Team News:

Faf du Plessis and Ravindra Jadeja has returned to full form which means they will be slotted back into the team. MS Dhoni’s fitness still remains an issue for the side. Remarkable spell vs MI will mean that Santner will keep his place in the expense of Bravo.

Delhi on the other hand have been very lucky to have a fully fit squad with no injuries. Citing to the pitch conditions, Sandeep Lamichhane might get a go.

Expected XI:

CSK: Shane Watson, Faf du Plessis/Murali Vijay, Suresh Raina (c), Ambati Rayudu (w), Kedar Jadhav, Mitchell Santner/DJ Bravo, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Harbhajan Singh, Shardul Thakur, Imran Tahir.

DC: Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Shreyas Iyer (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Colin Ingram, Sherfane Rutherford, Axar Patel, Amit Mishra, Kagiso Rabada, Sandeep Lamichhane, Ishant Sharma.
