Jeremy Lalrinnunga, who is a 17-year old weightlifter from Aizawl has signed a management deal with India’s top sports management company IOS Sports and Entertainment.

The youngster first broke into the scene back in 2018 when he became the first Indian to win a gold medal at the Youth Olympic Games held in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

He lifted a total weight of 274 kg in Buenos Aires, Argentina in the 62 kg category. He lifted 150kg on his last attempt, thus bringing glory to the nation. The weightlifting sensation is a product of the Army Sports Institute and has been lighting weight since the age of six.

He recently also became the national record holder in the Men’s 67 kg category by lifting a combined weight of 299 kg at the 72nd Men’s Senior National Weightlifting Championship.

Jeremy Lalrinnunga now joins the long list of elite athletes managed by the company that includes boxing superstars MC Mary Kom and Vijender Singh, IAAF World U-20 Champion in 400m and Asian Games 2018 gold medallist Hima Das, Commonwealth Games 2018 gold medallists Manika Batra, Asian Games 2018 Gold medallist Jinson Johnson and his female weightlifting teammate, Mirabai Chanu who has won a silver and gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2014 and 2018 respectively.

When Jeremy Lalrinnunga was only seven-years-old, he used to lift bamboo sticks and water connection pipes at the Aizwal Weightlifting Federation. Seeing his interest at such a young age, the coaches convinced his parents to let their son foray into the world of elite weight lifting.

However despite being such a natural in weight lifting. his first sport is Boxing, as his father was a national level boxer. He later made a full transition to weightlifting under the guidance of nationally acclaimed coach Malsawma Khiangte.

My father, Lalmaithuava, was a national-level boxer. When he used to train at the gym, I used to accompany him. I have learned the principles of sports from him. One day I heard that an ex-player was training kids in weightlifting near my house. I thought I would try my hand at this strength sport instead of boxing,” Jeremy said back in 2018.

What makes Jeremy unique is his ability to continuously perform at the top level. Last year at the Asian Youth Championship, he lifted a combined weight of 299 kg and broke his own youth record and won the gold medal.

A few months later in December at the Qatar International Cup, he claimed three world records en route to his silver-medal winning efforts in the 67kg weight category. He also broke his own Youth World and Youth Asian record in the snatch, clean and jerk and total lift to end with a total effort of an impressive 306 kgs.

His consistent performance and his ability to deliver at the world stage makes him the top contender to bag a medal at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games.

While Jeremy is without a doubt a phenomenal weight lifter, he still needs the guidance and management of experienced people in the industry who can negotiate professional and business deals in his behalf and signing with IOS sports will do exactly that.

I’m looking forward to a great association with IOS Sports. They are India’s leading sports management agency and have helped athletes build a solid brand image over the years. Their record speaks for itself and I’m happy to associate with them.” Jeremy said.

CEO and managing director of IOS Sports and Entertainment Mr Neerav Tomar is confident of serving his client in the best possible way.

At such a young age, Jeremy has achieved a lot. We know that he has a bright future and we hope he continues to excel as an athlete. We hope to serve him in the best possible way.” Neerav Tomar said.
