The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has officially released the list of athletes and support staff who will represent India at the Paris Olympics 2024. A total of 117 athletes have been approved by the sports ministry to participate in the mega event, which commences on July 26.

India is ready for the Paris Olympics

The contingent includes athletes from various disciplines, with athletics leading the way. Among them are javelin star Neeraj Chopra, badminton superstars PV Sindhu, weightlifting queen Mirabai Chanu, and members of the hockey teams.

Notably, the Tokyo Olympics 2020 campaign was highly successful for Team India, with a record haul of seven medals. The nation hopes to build on this achievement in Paris.

Accompanying the athletes will be a 140-member support staff and officials. Of these, 72 personnel have received government funding to cater to the needs of the participating sportspersons. However, there is a notable absence: shot putter Abha Kathua, who qualified for the Paris Olympics through the world ranking quota.

The permissible limit for support personnel staying in the Games Village, as per the norms of the Paris Organising Committee, is 67, including 11 IOA Contingent Officials (which includes five medical team members).

Additional coaches and other support staff (numbering 72) have been approved at the government’s expense. Their stay arrangements are outside the Games Village, in hotels or other locations.
