The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has been in the news due to an internal feud that has been ongoing since January. The latest development in this saga involves IOA President PT Usha ordering the removal of a notice from the office premises.

The notice in question was circulated by nine of the 15 Executive Council (EC) members. It asked “unauthorised persons” not to enter the IOA headquarters. This notice, which Usha termed as “arbitrary”, was directed at two recently appointed officials.

The majority of the EC members are against the appointment of Raghuram Iyer as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the IOA. They signed a suspension order declaring Iyer’s appointment by Usha as IOA CEO in January as null and void. The EC members also claimed that they had “terminated” Ajay Narang, the assistant to Usha at the IOA.

In response to these actions, Usha urged the association staff to remove copies of the EC’s notice pasted on the walls and doors of IOA headquarters. She stated, “It is directed to the IOA staff to remove any copies of the notice posted within the IOA Bhawan. Further, the IOA staff is instructed to follow guidance and directives from my office via my executive assistant”.

Usha expressed her disappointment at the EC members’ actions, stating, “It is disheartening to see that we are still not able to work as a team and each of your acts is an attempt to sideline me”. She reminded the EC members that the day-to-day administrative functions, including hiring and firing of staff, is not the job of the Executive Council.

This internal feud in the IOA, which first came out in public in January, is still continuing even though only three months remain before the Paris Olympics. Despite the ongoing issues, Usha remains committed to her role and continues to lead the IOA with determination.
