With the back-to-back exits of Lakshya Sen, as well as the pair of Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa, India’s campaign at the ongoing Indonesia Masters comes to an end on Friday.

Lakshya went down to local shuttling star Jonatan Christie, the current world no. 3 who lost the first game 15-21 but recovered to win 21-10, 21-13 in the next two games to win the match. Up next, Christie will face Shi Yuqi from China in the last four. The Chinese player beat his compatriot Lu Guangzhou in straight games in his quarterfinal outing.

Later in the day, the newly teamed up Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa saw their women’s doubles run come to an end as they lost their QF clash 13-21, 18-21 against Japanese duo Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota in the quarter-finals, marking the end of India’s campaign.

Former Olympic and World champion Carolina Marin reached her first semifinal in 2023 in women’s singles. In the quarterfinals, the Spaniard defeated Line Christophersen. Up next, Marin will face Han Yue of China. In the men’s doubles semifinal, Chinese pair He Jiting and Zhou Haodong thrashed Aaron Chia and Soh Wooiyik of Malaysia in straight games (21-17, 21-10).
