The inaugural event was held at Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia and boys aged between 13 to 15 from all across Asia participated in the event.

“I was selected through Khelo India Youth Games, where I was crowned the champion in artistic gymnastics. This opened the gateway for me to the Junior Asian Cup, which was my first international outing,” said Rafey while speaking to The Bridge.

Rafey also participated in Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega and judge Farah Khan admired his skills.

Rafey’s medal comes nearly eight years after Ashish Kumar’s feat, who won the first medal for India in male artistic gymnastics.

“I was a bit nervous going into my maiden international journey. However, my coaches, Ankit Tripathi, and Raja Babu, along with my family immensely motivated me to do well. Kazakhstan and the Chinese Taipei teams were pretty strong contenders, and winning a medal alongside them has lifted my confidence. I just gave my best” further added Rafey.
